Welcome to the Oregon Cascade Young Marines website. We are also informally known as the Portland Young Marines or the Swan Island Training Center Young Marines (SITCYM). We welcome new members who have or want to have grit (passion and perseverance for long-term goals). The most current information about becoming a member and participating in our next recruit training is on the Information-Recruiting Officer web page.
We also have information on web pages of the Young Marines website at YoungMarines.com:
The Young Marines was founded in 1958 and chartered by the Marine Corps League in 1965 to promote the mental, moral and physical development of young Americans. The Young Marines offers a variety of activities specifically designed to develop greater self-esteem, discipline and self-confidence in its members. Character building is one of the most important objectives of the Young Marine program, and all of its activities emphasize the importance of honesty, courage, respect, loyalty, dependability, and a sense of devotion to God, country, community and family. Young Marines make a pledge to maintain a drug free lifestyle and are encouraged to influence family, friends, and schoolmates to share this commitment.
The goal of physical fitness of all Young Marines is an important part of the program. A minimum of two officially recorded physical fitness tests (PFT) are required every year. The President's Challenge is administered as the official Young Marines PFT. Estimate a PFT Score with the PFT Score Estimator.
Qualifications for youth membership can be found on our website at the Performance Requirements for Rank of Recruit web page. The Oregon Cascades Young Marines will annually open membership and offer a recruit training Boot Camp starting in January, consisting of 8 Saturday training sessions at the Navy and Marine Swan Island Training Center located at 6735 N Basin Ave in Portland, OR. Parents of youth between the ages of 8 through high school who are interested in membership and attending our next Boot Camp will need to attend a pre-registration orientation meeting prior to the recruit training. Parents of interested youth may subscribe to our Notification List with Waiting List to be kept informed, and may optionally provide information about a potential recruit, including contact information. Parents who want more information or answers to specific questions, may also contact the Oregon Cascade Recruiting Officer contact the Oregon Cascade Recruiting Officer via email.

These I will honor and respect in a manner that will reflect credit upon them and myself. Semper Fidelis
